What is Trips?

Trips is a service provided by iGoTerra. It is an integrated tool designed for tour operators and dedicated naturalists to plan and administrate eco-excursions.

Are your lists complete and up to date?

Yes, our checklists are always taxonomically up-to-date, even though taxonomy is evolving rapidly these days and not only for birds. Depending on your bird reference, there are updated versions between 1 - 4 times a year. Aside from newly found species, splits and lumps that are important to be included in your checklist, you will also have all changes in naming and sequence included as per the latest version and these are quite frequent and very time-consuming to deal with in e.g excel.

Our country checklists are extremely accurate also down to subspecies level. After a trip, our tool therefore allows you to allocate your observations to subspecies level with ease.

How does the system know what are my targets?

It will look at the species you've seen (and reported in iGoTerra) in this country or anywhere in the world. A species seen in the country will be marked with C and if seen elsewhere in the world but not in this country with a W. In addition, if you have seen the species, but not this particular subspecies the information will be within brackets - (C) or (W).

All species without a C or W marker will be a new lifer for you. Also, any trip participant on your trip who is an iGoTerra member (Standard or Premium) will be able to generate the checklist with his/her targets. This allows both the leader and participant to work through the same list, albeit with personalized information

How can I upload the observations at the end of the Trip?

During the daily log, the tour leader takes down notes of the observations either in an excel spreadsheet or on our iPad app Trips.The leader then uploads the excel spreadsheet or sync the app to the website and he/she has the annotated trip report ready for review. In the tutorial all steps of the process are described including the coding system when using spreadsheet.

Once the trip report is ready, all trip participants with a Standard- or Premium iGoTerra membership can copy the observations to their personal account.

I'm going on a private tour with several friends, can we use the same app?

Yes, you can - Trips is available for private use up til 3 trips per year. There is one master checklist for the trip that is managed by the "tour leader".

Your friends (if they are at least standard members) can acces their "own" customized participant checklist and also - when the trip report has been completed - copy the observations to their own account. They can then easily edit their imported observations based on their own notes - e.g delete observations on a species they missed or change quantity.

Does it work also for mammals or butterflies?

Yes, you can choose any species group you would like. You can choose more than one species group - e.g. birds, mammals and butterflies and you can also determine the sequence in which you want them appear in the checklist.
